About the event
This year, as Houghton Lodge Gardens marks an incredible 230 years, it is inviting the public to join in a unique celebration of history, culture, and entertainment with its inaugural Regency event: Bridgerton Bliss: A Regency Afternoon of Tea, Tunes and Twirls on 6 August, from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm, the event is a brilliant opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of Regency England right in the heart of Hampshire.
Promising an enchanting blend of dance, music, and quintessentially English pastimes, this grand spectacle is set to become a landmark event in the region, providing an exceptional ode to the Regency heritage of the historic house and gardens. Houghton Lodge Gardens is proud to collaborate with the esteemed Hampshire Regency Dancers, who will orchestrate authentic music and dance performances, enabling visitors not only to spectate but also engage with the rhythmic elegance of the era. In the backdrop of the picturesque River Test, the Bossard Quartet will serenade guests with live music that perfectly captures the Bridgerton-style Regency ambiance.
Adding a gastronomic delight to the day, Bloom Bloom, renowned for running the popular café in the Orangery, will serve a delightful array of afternoon tea and pre-ordered picnics. To further ignite the spirit of the era, an intriguing Regency Trail is designed around the garden, interweaving plants with Regency origins and historical games such as lawn bowls.
Experience the time-honoured activity of ‘promenading’ in our walled garden and lawns, a favoured pastime of literary icon Jane Austen and her contemporaries. As an added treat, house tours are expected to take place, allowing guests to delve deeper into the rich history of Houghton Lodge. And for those who fancy it, dressing up in Regency costume is warmly welcomed, although not mandatory!
