About the event
You are warmly invited to drop into Romsey Abbey at any point over the extended Bank Holiday Weekend, as together with the town and nation they celebrate the unique occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III.
Look out for the Union Flag flying at full mast above Romsey Abbey and the Town Hall over the weekend!
On Saturday 6th May, you are welcome to watch and experience the Coronation Service from within the beautiful setting of Romsey Abbey. The service, which begins at 11am, will be live-streamed from 10.30am in Romsey Abbey and we are sure the abbey will provide a unique setting to watch and experience something of mystique of this historic occasion.
For children and families, why not drop into the Church Rooms anytime between 10.30am and 1pm on Sat 6th May. There will be Coronation themed crafts and activities and you can also watch the service from the Church Rooms while you get crafty!
And as Romsey Carnival Committee kicks of the Coronation Street Party celebrations in the town from 1pm - 8pm, listen out for Romsey Abbey's full Peal of Bells which will begin at 2.30pm
On Sunday 7th May we hold an All Age Parish Eucharist with celebration of the Coronation at the later time of 10.30am.
From midday, come and participate in a Big Picnic in the South Garth outside the Abbey. Bring your own lunch, chairs and friends. There will be still and sparking wine (available by the glass or the bottle) and soft drinks, for donations to Abbey funds. Strawberries and cream will be available for sale. To help with catering, please pre-order strawberries and cream (£2.25 per portion – payment on the day) by contacting Liz Wagner elmawag1@gmail.com
The Big Picnic will lead into a special Commemoration Service at 3pm with music from the full Romsey Abbey Choirs. All are welcome to join us for this Civic service.
