About the event

The Boy Slade - The RAF's Youngest Bomber Pilot of WW2 with Graham Waterton

Daytime talk at the Army Flying Museum

Thursday 12th February 2026 at 10.30am

Just before his 16th birthday in 1940, Brian Slade falsified his age to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. Before he had turned 18, which was the minimum age to begin aircrew training, Brian had already completed thirty-four operations. The RAF’s Youngest Bomber Pilot of WW2, told by his nephew, Graham Waterton, details all of Brian’s fifty-nine operations and captures his compelling progress with Bomber Command.

In Graham’s talk, as well as describing his uncle’s operational career, he reveals the most enjoyable part of his research which was the people his uncle flew with, many of whom had remarkable stories, some tragic but all inspiring. This is a daytime talk at 10.30am at the Army Flying Museum.
