On Saturday 10 May, Crosfield Hall will play host to the very first Romsey Literary Day – a one-day festival of books, ideas, and community.
Organised by Romsey WI as part of their 50th birthday celebrations, the event brings together authors, publishers and literary organisations with one shared aim: to celebrate storytelling and spark conversation across the community.
With a mix of nationally recognised and local authors, panel discussions and drop-in sessions, there’s something for everyone. The day will include a headline talk from critically acclaimed author, activist, speaker and journalist, Laura Bates. Known for her impactful writing around gender equality, Laura Bates has struck a particular chord with younger readers, making her a powerful addition to the line-up. The event will also feature local Hampshire authors including Louise Morrish and representatives from Chawton House Library – home of a rich history of women’s literature – and Goldfinch Bookshop, who’ll be bringing titles and recommendations for every kind of reader.
While the theme focuses on women’s writing, the event is open to all and welcomes everyone from seasoned bookworms to casual browsers. There’ll be Q&A sessions, book signings, a chance to meet local book groups, and plenty of space to chat, think and connect.
From discovering the literary history of Hampshire to hearing from voices shaping today’s publishing world, the event offers a full day of connection, learning and entertainment.
Romsey Literary Day has been supported by Romsey Future and a £2,000 Councillor Community Grant from Test Valley Borough Council – a clear sign of local backing for events that celebrate culture, inclusion and togetherness.
Whether you’re looking for your next great read or just want to soak up some literary inspiration, this is a brilliant chance to support something new, local and community-led.
